Week 1: Getting Started
We’ll ease our way into the Masterclass by first learning about essential painting supplies and surface materials. We’ll look at some example artworks from which to draw inspiration while also getting a mini feminist art history lesson, then we’ll discover how/where to find our own reference images. After we learn how to build and organize our very own curated image collection, we’ll touch on composition and give you the tools to either draft or spontaneously create a composition.
Week 2: Practicing on Paper
This week, we’ll discover the magic of colour theory and mixing as we transition from theory to practice. You’ll get a feel for your tools by painting on paper with step-by-step guidance that will show you how to paint the key flowers from our Dutch Masters inspired composition. From delicate leaves to vibrant tulips and bluebells, you’ll refine your skills and prep your muscle memory for next weeks’s lessons.
Week 3: Putting Brush to Bottle
This week we’ll transition from paper to glass, putting brush to bottle with confidence now that we’ve gone through each flower step by step. You’ll learn the layering techniques that I have personally honed over the years, and I’ll also show you how to add depth and dimension to your compositions with highlights and shadows. During manageable, bite-sized video lessons (because I’ve personally gotten so overwhelmed by online classes/tutorials, I wanted to make sure these lessons felt easy to accomplish) we’ll work layer by layer, flower by flower. Along the way I will provide insight into the differences between live painting techniques versus painting for in-studio commissions, so you will feel confident in either situation.
Week 4: Going Full Baroque
In our final week, we’ll explore advanced techniques, adding intricate details inspired by Baroque painting. You’ll connect the elements of your composition with lush foliage and filler flowers, while mastering techniques for even deeper shading and texture. We’ll explore practical applications for your newfound skills, and then conclude with a live painting session and Q&A finale. You’ll walk away with a stunning portfolio piece and the skills to offer on-site bottle painting or beautiful in-studio commissions for clients who appreciate quality artistry!
Meet your teacher; Jodi Tellier
Hello! I’m Jodi. I am a multidisciplinary artist, educator, Mom/Dog Mom, and Red Wine Enthusiast with a passion for drawing flowers, plants, and people. I have been drawing since I cold hold a pencil, and grew up always knowing that I wanted to be an artist. My business consists of providing live event calligraphy & illustration for clients who value quality & artistry as much as I do, as well as teaching online courses to the best students ever.
Since starting my business in 2016, I have worked with an extensive list of clients such as Tiffany & Co, Guerlain, Diptyque, Holt Renfrew and Dior. I have taught over 500 students everything from calligraphy to drawing and painting, to how to working with luxury brands themselves. I’m so thrilled to finally be teaching a class that combines my love of painting with my expertise in creating live art: a masterclass on bottle painting!
My goal for this class is for students to walk away a killer portfolio piece to show off to potential clients and the ability to confidently paint bottles for both in-house commissions & live on-site work.

+ How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own, and including all future updates.
+ Do I need to buy any supplies?
That will depend on what exactly you already have on hand but in general - yes, I would expect to spend a bit of money buying a few supplies. I will provide a detailed list of exactly what supplies you need for the masterclass, but you may already have some of the things you need. I'll have a list of the "essentials" and then a list of the "nice to have's" so that you know what is super important to have and what you can hold off on buying for now!
+ Will there be any live instruction / feedback or opportunity to ask questions?
Yes! At the end of the 4 weeks, I will do a Live Demo and Q&A! You can also reach out to me any time throughout the 4 weeks if you have urgent questions or need my support. This will be the founding round of the course, so any questions you encounter will really help me to build an FAQ for the course and potentially adjust any lessons that need further clarification!
+ Who is this course for?
This course is for both beginners who are curious about getting started with bottle painting, as well as experienced artists who are already familiar witht the art. The techniques that I will be teaching are different from existing bottle painting courses, so if you have taken a previous bottle painting class you will learn lots of new things here! (I believe in having a well-rounded art education so I think taking classes from different instructors is a great idea!)
+ If I'm a total beginner, will you teach me everything I need to know from start to finish?
Yes! We will start by going over everything from what supplies to use, to practicing on paper and then finally working on the bottle. The pace of the course is designed to give you lots of breathing room in between lessons and give you a full overview of bottle painting.
